The Sexy Chick tunesmith has overseen GaGa’s career since signing her to his KonLive label in 2007 and famously campaigned to get Just Dance on the radio after stations across the US rejected it. The single went on to become the second biggest-selling download of all time.

Akon added: “Last year I said I wanted to focus on developing GaGa as an artist more than focusing on myself and, man, she has exceeded all expectations. When you meet an artist who is that precious, you have to drop everything for them.”

Akon will premiere his Pepsi Max charity single Oh, Africa – featuring Keri Hilson, 27, and the Soweto Gospel Choir – at the Grammys.
