The Maldives government has given the approval for the show. The concert which was initially scheduled to be held in Sri Lanka sparked a controversy there when the Sri Lankan government rejected visa to the US R&B singer, saying one of his videos disrespected Buddhism.
Akon’s music video for the track “Sexy Chick” showed scantily clad women dancing around a statue of the Lord Buddha, much to the offence of the Lankan government. However, the Daily Mirror in Sri Lanka has reported that last minute talks were on to hold the show minus Akon. But the report did not confirm the matter.
